Fall Happenings

This is just a quick update to let you know where I will be this fall and early winter. Of course, I always have my work at Pottery Place Plus in Downtown Spokane (I will be having a special show with new work in December, more about that later). I also have work at Essential Art in Moscow Idaho. Then I will be part of 33 Artists Market at the Hive October 25th and I will be participating in Yuletide at the Spokane Art School in November. I hope to see you soon!

Just for fun I thought I'd show you this. A family friend came over to help us out with some home repair tasks and brought a few of his more special pieces from his rock collection. These blue crystals are copper from the wild! He said it was the only poisonous rock he owned, and in fact, copper is poisonous but can be used as a mordant. I personally don't use it on fabric, but have had lots of fun playing around with it on paper. One must handle it correctly and dispose of it properly of course.

This is copper crystal.

This is copper liquer I made from copper pipe-there's that blue! You leach the copper from the pipe by letting it soak in water with a little vinegar in it, you can see the crystals growing on the sides of the glass. For what I do with it, this is a ten year supply-at least. You keep adding water and vinegar until the pipe is gone.

This is paper I printed with the copper mordant. The plant is Persian coneflower and that crazy pink wash is from the copper mordant. The little blue flower in the corner is an African daisy, if I had used alum as the mordant it would be a purple to navy blue. With the copper it is more of green-blue.
